Florida is largely populated by people who have come from other places in the United States, particularly the Northeast. People, of course, also leave Florida. About equal numbers of people from Florida move to the West and elsewhere in the South as come from these regions to Florida. Far more people from the North Central and Northeast regions come to Florida than move to the regions from Florida. This is especially true of the Northeast. These two regions are Florida's principal source of retirees.
Migration to Florida from other regions or from elsewhere within the South is to a degree regionalized. Southerners figure prominently among the in-migrants to all parts of Florida, but in North Florida, the Peninsular Interior, and the SpaceÊCoast they are especially well represented. People from the Northeast prefer the GoldÊCoast, where they are the largest group from elsewhere in the US Northeasterners, however, are settling in large numbers throughout the peninsula. People from North Central states are better represented on the SunÊCoast than those from other US regions. Foreigners figure prominently among migrants only on the Gold Coast. These people generally come from Caribbean countries or elsewhere in Latin America.
